The first picture is a usual house in the villages around Luang Prabang. The second shows the electrical grid on the Luang Prabang main drag; a spaghetti of wire stapled to a pole. Electricity goes off randomly, every day. The last picture shows gardens planted on the banks of the MeKong during the dry season.

Most of the people of northern Laos are slash and burn, subsistence farmers. During the "burn" portion of the year, the air is filled with smoke, so that it is hard to breath, as portions of the forest are burned, so that crops can be planted.
